Silvestr
A Happy New Year!
Grant that I May bring no tear to any eye,
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a Happy Year.

New Years Eve Rochester Weather Forecast
Today's weather forecast for Rochester calls for clear skies and temperatures in the high 40's F or close to 8 C. A huge difference from last weekend. Yesterday was the first time in over two weeks that temps have risen above freezing.
Update: It is now 50 F (10 C)at Noon. Wonderful. And the snow is starting to melt away. One can see grass everywhere.
Evening Update: A gloriously warm day. Like a Spring Day. Believe or not, most of the snow has melted and IS GONE! Unbelievable.

This Morning's Walk
Thoughts
"If instead of a gem, or even a flower,
we should cast the gift of a loving thought into the heart of a friend,
that would be giving as the angels give." ~George MacDonald
"Yes we are [friends] and I do like to pass the day with you in serious and inconsequential chatter. I wouldn't mind washing up beside you, dusting beside you, reading the back half of the paper while you read the front. We are friends and I would miss you, do miss you and think of you very often. I don't want to lose this happy space where I have found someone who is smart and easy and doesn't bother to check her diary when we arrange to meet." ~Jeanette Winterson
"If you're alone, I'll be your shadow.
If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder.
If you want a hug, I'll be your pillow.
If you need to be happy, I'll be your smile.
But anytime you need a friend, I'll just be Me." ~Author Unknown

Mom's Bread Pudding
A picture of my mother's Bread Pudding. The photo does not do the dessert justice. It was delicious! Cubes or large shreds of Day old bread, raisins, all soaked in a cream, sugar and egg mixture, and then baked.
While still warm, the pudding is then drizzled with Rich Dark New York State Maple Syrup. Really good.

Rochester's snowiest December in 120 years
Rochester set a record for the most snowfall in the month of December in 120 years; 46.4 inches (117.9 cm) of snow fell this month.
Syracuse, a neighboring City 75 miles to the east of Rochester, got 71.9 inches (182.6 cm) of snow this month.
No more snow is expected this year, as temperatures tomorrow are expected to be well above freezing.

Secret
And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Flight Canceled ;-((
There has been a Major Noreaster, or by another name, a Major Winter Storm which was actually a very Severe blizzard. It blanketed the East Ccoast this past Sunday, into Monday. New York(Central Park) got 26.9 inches(68.3cm) of snow, which is an amazing amount of snow for New York and for JFK.
UPDATE: Tuesday Morning. All flights to JFK have been canceled here in Rochester for today, so I could not make my Prague connection scheduled to leave at 7:30 this evening. No way to get there.
There are no seats available to JFK from Rochester on any airlines until Saturday morning, January 1st, so am now booked that morning.
I have also rebooked on the JFK to Prague flight which leaves Saturday evening at 6:55pm, arriving in Prague at 9:40am on Sunday, January 2nd.
The weather forecaat for the remainder of this week here in Rochester and in New York is suppose to be fine, so I know I will get back to Prague on Sunday. ;-)

finally, a taste worth waiting for....
This afternoon , I finally opened this gift of Medovina; heated it gently and poured myself a small glass and embellished it with a cinnamon stick; something perhaps we both share on this Christmas day.
Cinnamon Medovina. Quite a surprising flavor. Very Good. This gift was a real treat to enjoy here in the US and it allowed me to think about Christmas Day in Morava.
Vesele Vanoce v Morava
...to My Friend on this Christmas Day.
Sending these wishes to you for a Happy and Merry Christmas, ...and my friend, I hope you see the Gold Pig this evening(but without slivovice:-), and when the little bell rings after dinner, my wish is that Baby Jesus will have brought you something that brings you the many smiles today that you deserve.
I wish you the very best in all things for your Christmas and Much Happiness in the New Year to come. Vesele Vanoce.

Wrapping Fun....
Photos & Platyz
..and the weather back home... Ach Jo!
From this morning Rochester News:
Since yesterday afternoon, more than 11 inches (28 cm) of snow have fallen in parts of Monroe County(Rochester).
“It’s really going to keep on coming,” he said. “It’s not going to be intense, just really persistent. All that snow will add up.”
A total of 3 to 7 (18 cm) inches are expected today, with 5 to 9 (22cm) inches more predicted to fall overnight and another 3 to 7 (18cm) inches of fresh snow tomorrow, according to the Weather Service.
As of 1 p.m., 11.3 inches had fallen at the Greater Rochester International Airport since the storm began yesterday afternoon, according to the Weather Service.
And as of today, 39 inches (99cm) had fallen in Rochester so far this month in the first 15 days, making this month the 9th snowiest December in Rochester so far, McLaughlin said, noting that those totals will change as the snow continues to fall.
“There’s a good chance this will be the snowiest December in Rochester by tomorrow,” he said.

Homemade "American" Holiday Fudge
...this evening I had to improvise... only had a sauce pan, a frying pan and a "tupper-ware" type container; no double boiler and no baking dishes.
But I did have all the ingredients from the states(from last August - yes I am a saver, & for just the right time) to make Holiday Chocolate Fudge from Nestle morsels for this holiday season in Prague. No oven to bake...but do have 2 stove top cookers to melt things. ;-)
Never used a flying pan for the final product... but a little butter to the pan, and hopefully it will come out of the pan alright.
I will certainly be sharing this in a few of my classes, since I will not eat much of it, even though it IS absolutely delicious ( since I made it ;-) Yumm. Mnam.
Here are some pix of the process...
Sonberk Chardonnay straw wine od Morava
A Gift from one of the Bank executives I teach. Chardonnay Straw Wine. South Moravia(Morava) is the premier region in the Czech Republic for great white wines.
Ice wines and Straw wines are very popular here but a bit expensive. So this is a real treat to receive and I will enjoy it with a close friend, should she wish.
This particular bottle is huge in comparison to the normal ice/straw wine bottles that one usually finds in the stores, as you can see in the second photo, so perhaps there is more than just a taste. ;-) in that bottle. ;-)
