Invalidovna

This building is called: Invalidovna. I went looking for this building today in Karlin section of Prague 9. The metro stop there is named after it.

The building was built from 1732 to 1737 to serve as a home to house disabled soldiers. In front of the Invalidovna building today there stands a statue of Earl Strozzi, who established a foundation for disabled soldiers when it was built and for an uninterrupted period from 1737 through WW I, the Invalidovna building served disabled soldiers of all wars.

In recent times, this building was serving as a military record office and military library of the Czech Army up until the floods of 2002, when this Karlin section of Prague was under as much as 5 feet of water. Much of the archives were destroyed due to the flooding and since then the building has laid empty and in a state of decay.
It is highly regarded for its architecture.
