Michna Palace ~ Michnův palác (Tyršov dům)
The Michna Palace is one of the largest palaces in Prague. This Early baroque Palace can be found adjacent to Kampa park in Mala strana, close to and facing the River. At the end of the 16th century, in place of a convent for Dominican nuns, Jan Vchynský of Vchynice had a Renaissance suburban summer palace built here.
Then in 1623, it was bought and built into an ostentatious Baroque residence by a profiteer, Pavel Michna of Vacinov. It is one of the finest buildings in Early Baroque style in the Czech Republic.
In 1921 the palace came under the administration of Czechoslovakian Sokol society an important national-orientated physical-education organization, which bears the name of its founder Miroslav Tyrš and now holds a Museum of Physical Culture and Sport.
