Church of St. Nicholas

This is St. Nicholas Church (1 of 3 St. Nicholas churches in Prague) which lies in the center of the Lesser Town Square (Malostránské náměstíi) and is the largest of Prague's churches, founded by the Jesuits. Both the greenish Dome and Bell Tower are now symbols of Prague and two of most prominent figures of the Lesser Quarter.

Construction of this particular St. Nicholas Church began in 1703 on the site of the former Parish Church of St. Nicholas, which dated back to 1283. Its history is linked to Czech recatholic-ization process that followed the defeat of the Hussites in the Battle of the White Mountain (1620) during the 30 years war.

Concerts are held here all throughout the year. The organ which is found in this church is THE Organ that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played in person while he lived here in Prague in the late 1700's.
