Petřín Silhouettes
Silhouettes on the top of Petřín. Two of them: 1) Petřín tower and The Baroque 2) Church of St. Lawrence(Kostel Sv. Vavrince na Petříne)
The legend tells that there was a sanctuary built on this site as early as at the end of 10th century. Reputedly it was meant to displace the original heathen sacrificial location. The first historical account about this church here comes from the year 1135.
A more ostentatious structure replaced it in the Gothic era, when Emperor Charles IV was building the Hunger Wall in Petřín, the Wall which is just behind this Church. The Baroque conversion was completed as late as in 1770.
The drastic anti-clerical reform under Emperor Joseph II led to the desecration of the this church in 1784. After large scale repairs, the church was once again consecrated in 1840.
The Picture BELOW is this Church, the Church of St. Lawrence. as it looks in the daylight on the top of Petřín park.
