The National Theatre is home to Czech Theatre(plays) and the national Ballet. The National Theatre’s foundation stones were laid at a ceremony on 16 May 1868. The Theatre opened it doors on 11 June 1881 to honor the visit of Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria. However, just a few days later on the 12th of August 1881, during some final completion work, a fire broke out which destroyed the copper dome, the auditorium and the stage of this Theatre. The National Theatre reopened a little over 2 years later on 18 November 1883 and has been a prominent monument to the Czech Arts ever since.
