The Grébovka Wine Festival

A typical Autumn Day today, overcast at times and quite chilly, but a nice day for a Festival. Vinobraní na Grébovce(Grébovka) began yesterday(Friday, September 17) at Náměstí Míru and continued today in Havlíčkovy Sady(park), one of the two large parks in Vinohrady(Prague 3); Vinohrady, by the way, means "vineyards" ( This area used to be the vineyards for the Castle, several miles away). Central to the park is Vila Grébovka. Most people actually refer to the park as Grébovka.

This Vila sits atop its own active and working vineyard, as pictured above(...The varietals grown at Grébovka are Pinot gris, Mueller-Thurgau, Rhine Riesling, Dornfelder and Pinot noir) right in the center of Prague. The Neo-Renaissance Vila was built as a summer home for industrialist Moritz Gröbe in the 1870s(Top Pic below).

This merry event is just one of many festivals in Prague and across the country where wine-enthusiasts can get together to celebrate the grape harvest and have a good time.
Of course, wine and Burčák abound. The picture above is Burčák made from the grapes grown here. Note is rosy color, a variety not found often.

Right below the Vila is a reconstructed Gazebo(2nd pic below), Viniční Altán, where you can sit and drink the vineyard's wines and enjoy some light snacks. A wonderful place on a sunny Autumn day.
