September & Vinobrani
With crispness in the air, the Month of September heralds the best time of year to be a wine lover here in the Czech Republic: The season of vinobraní, or grape harvest festivals.
Over these next 4 weekends, Vinobraní's can be found all over this country, with the biggest celebrations taking place in south Moravian wine country, but closer to Prague as well, in the northern town of Mělník & Lítomerice, as well as within Prague's own city limits, which I will blog on over the next few weekends.
The first Vinobrani of the season is this weekend in the Royal Gardens of Prague Castle. I was there yesterday. The wine-growing tradition at the castle dates back to the times of St. Wenceslas. This particular vinobraní is only in its fifth year and it was a very small affair.
