Loreta Complex

This Sunday is yielding another beautiful, but cold(50's) day. I found this beautiful Baroque Church Complex called Loreta. Loreta apparently is an important Pilgrimage site and includes The church of the Lord's Birth, a magnificent tall clock tower with a Carillon, surrounded by cloisters. It was commissioned by Baroness Beligna Katherina von Lobkowicz in 1626.

After completion, Loreta was maintained by the Capuchins, an order of Monks connected with the St. Francis of Assisi's Brotherhood.

This building was created to promote the legend of Santa Casa, a copy of the house believed to be the Virgin Mary's. This Santa Casa copy, complete with original fresco pieces and the statue of Our Lady of Loreta.

The tower houses a Carillon, a instrument of 30 bells, which at one time encouraged the monks to pray every hour. At the time it was put into operation - at the end of the 17th century - it was a true rarity in Bohemia.
