Pondering...

I was thinking about mistakes last night. Trying to finally work through a recent one and put it to rest.

Al Franken stated that “mistakes are part of being human”. Most times, we make mistakes, knowing full well the instant we do. We get that sinking feeling of doom. Other times it is a slow burn, unaware of the potential outcome about to occur, then it happens; the impact of what just happened is known to us but then this impact grows more steadily with each passing day. I guess the outcome of some mistakes are recoverable, perhaps over time, depending on the event and the individuals involved. And perhaps many are not.

Sophia Loren, that great sage of wisdom, said that “Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life”. Yes, agreed, dues. Ach jo. Hugh White said “when you make a mistake, don’t look back at it long. Take the reason of the thing into your mind and then look forward….”. It does no good to dwell on things where the results and the aftermath are now out of your control.

Finally James Joyce, said “Mistakes are the portals of discovery”. Implying growth; of doing better when presented with a similar situation or decision in the future or allowing for discourse, grace and repair. Al Franken commented that “Mistakes are lessons of wisdom. The past can not be changed. The future is yet in your power”. It is. Indeed promising. + 59
